I am the Lucy Rogers who designed “Family Mittens” for the Interweave Press Book, “Homespun Handknit”.
It was reprinted in another book, “A Handspindle Treasury”. This is the pattern I use in my mitten kits available
on this website.
My yarn shop, Hilltop Handspun Yarns in Lovell, Maine, is
unique because I hand dye all and hand spin many of my own luxury yarns. My passion is collecting whole
wool, alpaca, mohair and angora (rabbit) fleeces from farms and fiber shows in Maine and New England and making beautiful
yarns with them. In addition to hand spinning many of my yarns, a small local mill custom processes some of the fleeces into
yarn to my specifications taking into account special requests for different blends of animal and sometimes silk, tencil
and/or other natural fibers. The yarn or roving is then hand dyed in my kitchen in small batches. Make sure your purchase
is enough for the project you have in mind. Home hand dyeing is not an exact science, and colors vary from one yarn dye lot
to the next.
